Daniel Sturniolo

Father, teacher and aspiring layabout Daniel Sturniolo was born in Waukegan, Illinois, moved to Chicago, and studied poetry, photography, and book arts at Columbia College, where Ron Padgett read him poetry at 18. He went on to earn a BA in English at the University of Illinois.

Acquaintance with the great editor-writer William Maxwell having steered him safely clear of academia, Daniel stumbled around for a while, looking for the sort of bohemian community that doesn’t exist in our late-stage capitalist world. Eventually, he opted for doing some direct good, and became a special education teacher at a non-profit residential treatment facility, helping students stabilise after experiencing trauma.
